*Step One

Step one is a phonics and comprehension tutoring program for the lower grade levels. Students learn to read words and sentences at an early stage of the program. Therefore, students are able to build a reading vocabulary, not just knowledge of isolated sounds.

Components necessary for reading proficiency are built into the program. These include:

Directionality Sound-Symbol Association Beginning Punctuation
Eye-Hand Coordination Consonant-vowel Blends Rhyming
Letter Recognition Sight Word Development Language Development
Correct Letter Formation (Handwriting) Auditory Discrimination Left-to-Right Orientation
Oral Reading Visual Sequencing
